What is RTMP? (The Simple Version)

Think of RTMP as a "delivery truck" for live video. Just like a delivery truck needs an address to know where to drop off a package, your camera needs RTMP credentials (the "address") to know where to send the live video.

Your Camera

Creates the live video (the "package")

RTMP Protocol

Delivers the video (the "delivery truck")

Your Fan Club

Watches the video (the "destination")

The Bottom Line

You don't need to understand how RTMP works—just like you don't need to know how Wi-Fi works to use it. SocialScoreKeeper gives you the "address" (credentials), and your camera app handles the rest!

Why Use a Secondary Device?

So you can stay present at the game while still sharing it with family

One Phone Only

Phone is locked in streaming mode—can't use scoreboard

Can't chat with fans or respond to messages

Miss important moments while managing the stream

Battery drains quickly

Result: You're managing technology instead of watching your child play

RECOMMENDED

Secondary Device

Primary phone free for scoreboard, chat, photos

Stay engaged with fans throughout the game

Set and forget—camera streams automatically

Better camera angles (tripod-mounted)

Result: You're fully present watching your child while family watches remotely

Budget Tip

Start with an old smartphone and a cheap tripod. If you stream regularly and love it, upgrade later to a sports camera. Most families find the free option works perfectly!

Step-by-Step: Your First Stream

Follow these simple steps and you'll be streaming in minutes

1

Create or Open a Game in SocialScoreKeeper

Open the SocialScoreKeeper app on your primary phone and either create a new game or open an existing one.

Tip: You can generate credentials before the game starts or during the game.

2

Tap the Camera Icon → "Live Stream"

In the game screen, tap the camera icon and select "Live Stream" from the options.

Don't see the camera icon? The camera icon is only visible if the ScoreKeeper has authorized you to capture and upload media. Ask the ScoreKeeper to grant you media capture permissions.

3

Tap "Generate RTMP Credentials"

The app will instantly create unique credentials for this specific game. You'll see:

  • Server URL: Where to send the video
  • Stream Key: Your unique identifier

Tip: Use the copy buttons next to each field—don't try to type them manually!

Important: If your stream stops or disconnects, you'll need to generate NEW credentials to restart—even for the same game. Old credentials expire after each stream ends.

4

Download an RTMP App on Your Secondary Device

On your secondary device (old phone or camera), download any RTMP streaming app. Popular free options:

iPhone/iPad
  • • Larix Broadcaster (Free)
  • • Prism Live Studio (Free)
  • • CameraFi Live (Free)
Android
  • • Larix Broadcaster (Free)
  • • CameraFi Live (Free)
  • • StreamLabs (Free)

Tip: Try a few apps to find your favorite. They're all free and work the same way!

5

Enter Your RTMP Credentials in the App

Open the RTMP app on your secondary device and paste in the credentials:

  1. Look for "Settings" or "Add Stream" in the app
  2. Find the "RTMP URL" or "Server" field → paste Server URL
  3. Find the "Stream Key" field → paste Stream Key
  4. Save the settings

Security Note: These credentials only work for this specific game. Each game gets new credentials automatically.

6

Set Up Your Camera and Start Streaming

Position your secondary device on a tripod or stable surface:

  • Point the camera at the field
  • Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi or have good cellular signal
  • Tap "Start Stream" or "Go Live" in the RTMP app

Connection Tip: 4G/5G works great! If the field has public Wi-Fi, that's even better.

✓

Done! Your Family is Watching Live

Your Fan Club members automatically get notified and can watch the stream in the SocialScoreKeeper app. The recording will save to the game gallery 2-3 minutes after the stream ends.

Now what? Put your phone away and watch your child play! The stream runs automatically.

Common Questions & Troubleshooting

Who can live stream a game?

Anyone who has been given media capture permissions by the ScoreKeeper can live stream. This includes:

  • • The ScoreKeeper (the parent who created the athlete profile)
  • • The Fan Club Manager (typically the other parent)
  • • Any fan designated by the ScoreKeeper to capture media

How to tell: If you see the camera icon during the game, you have permission to stream. If you don't see it, ask the ScoreKeeper to grant you media capture permissions.

What if I don't have another smartphone?

No problem! Use the in-app camera in SocialScoreKeeper to capture photos and videos that upload instantly. You can also borrow a phone from family, or consider buying a used phone for $50-100—they don't need to be activated or have a SIM card, just Wi-Fi capability.

The stream is choppy or keeps freezing

This usually means connection issues. Try these fixes:

  • • Move closer to the Wi-Fi router if using Wi-Fi
  • • Check your cellular signal strength if using mobile data
  • • Lower the video quality in your RTMP app settings (try 720p instead of 1080p)
  • • Reduce the frame rate to 24fps or 30fps
  • • Make sure no other apps are running on the streaming device

How much data does streaming use?

A 90-minute game at 720p uses approximately 1-2GB of data. At 1080p, it's 2-3GB. Most unlimited plans handle this easily, but check your plan if you're concerned.

Can fans watch if they're not at the game?

Yes! That's the whole point. Fans watch on their phones from anywhere—home, work, across the country. They just open the SocialScoreKeeper app and tap the live stream notification.

What happens to the recording after the game?

The recording automatically saves to that game's gallery 2-3 minutes after you stop streaming. It's stored forever (as long as you maintain your subscription), organized by game, and ready to share anytime.

Do I need to generate new credentials for every game?

Yes, but it takes 30 seconds. Each game gets its own unique credentials for security and organization. This ensures each stream is tied to the correct game in your child's profile.

Important: If your stream stops or gets interrupted for any reason, you'll need to generate NEW credentials—even for the same game. The old credentials won't work once a stream ends.

Can multiple people stream the same game?

Yes! Multiple fans with media capture permissions can each generate their own credentials and stream simultaneously to the same game. This is great when:

  • • Different family members want different camera angles
  • • You want a backup stream in case one fails
  • • Multiple people are sharing streaming duties

Note: Fans watching will see the most recent stream that started. Each person generates their own unique credentials.

What if my stream gets interrupted or disconnected?

If your stream stops for any reason (lost connection, battery died, accidentally closed the app, etc.), you'll need to generate NEW credentials to resume streaming—even though you're still in the same game.

Once credentials are used for a stream that ends, they expire for security. This is a 30-second process:

  1. Go back to SocialScoreKeeper on your primary phone
  2. Tap the Camera icon → "Live Stream"
  3. Tap "Generate RTMP Credentials" again
  4. Copy the NEW credentials to your streaming device
  5. Start streaming again

Pro Tip: Make sure your streaming device is fully charged and has a stable connection before the game starts to minimize interruptions!

Ready to Give It a Try?

The best way to learn is to do it! Your first stream might feel a bit awkward, but by your second game, it'll be second nature.
